CDC Bottle Bioassay
Time-mortality readings in coated bottles for the Global or CONUS edition of the CDC manual, in four modes, with control checks and preserved saved results.
Available- Insecticide-coated bottle
- Control bottle
Conceptual illustration: adult mosquitoes in coated glass bottles, scored at set reading times during exposure. It is not a technical drawing of CDC equipment.
About the method
The CDC bottle bioassay exposes adult mosquitoes in coated glass bottles and records how many are dead at set times during exposure. VectorBio supports two editions of the CDC manual, Global and CONUS (continental United States), and keeps their rules and reference tables separate.
The result is read at the diagnostic time of the selected profile. Scoring during exposure is not WHO 24-hour mortality, so CDC results are never combined with WHO Tube or WHO Bottle results in one comparison.
How it works in VectorBio
Choose the edition and mode
Select the Global or CONUS edition and one of four modes: diagnostic susceptibility, resistance intensity, synergist or inhibitor comparison, or calibration record. The edition is chosen explicitly and never inferred from language or location.
Set the context
Choose a published profile for the taxon and active ingredient. The diagnostic dose and time come from the profile. Linking a project, sample or colony/strain is optional.
Enter readings
Record the mosquitoes in each bottle and the dead or alive count at each reading time. Your entries are kept as a draft until you save a result.
Analyze
Analyze computes the current result, control checks and charts without saving anything.
Save
Save stores an immutable record that you can reopen, submit for your laboratory’s review and export. A correction creates a new linked result; the original stays preserved.
What the result shows
- Mortality at the diagnostic time, pooled over the test bottles
- Control-bottle checks and whether a correction was applied
- Interpretation when the control checks permit it
- Time-mortality chart and reading table
- Intensity, synergist or inhibitor comparisons and calibration records, depending on the mode
Scope
- Rules come only from the selected CDC edition; they are not inherited from WHO Tube or WHO Bottle.
- Where a published edition leaves the reading of a result open, VectorBio withholds the classification and explains why instead of choosing one.
- Not included: fitted time- or concentration-response statistics, larval and molecular assays, and treatment recommendations.
What a saved result looks like
The structure of a saved result in the VectorBio application. Field names are taken from the released interface; values appear only in your own Workspace.
